Workshop: Dispersal models with agricultural applications.

Brorfelde, Denmark; October 21-22, 2003

SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

Date and Time: October 21-22, 2003; start at 12.00 on Tuesday, end at 14.00 on Wednesday.
Venue: Brorfelde Observatory Complex; near Holbæk, Denmark.
Organizer: Dina (Danish Informatics Network in the Agricultural Sciences)
Hanne Østergård, Risø National Laboratory
Morten Larsen, Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University
Deadline: October 13, 2003.

INVITED SPEAKER:
Dr. Michael Shaw, Reader in Plant Disease Epidemiology, School of Plant Sciences, The University of Reading, UK:
Simulation and analysis of spatial pattern formation at multiple scales in relation to plausible dispersal kernels

A 24-hours workshop on dispersal models with applications in agriculture will be held on October 21-22, 2003 at Brorfelde Observatory Complex starting with lunch Tuesday.

This is a call for participation. If you work with dispersal models and/or spatial patterns applied to agriculture or forestry and would like to participate in the workshop, please get in touch with Morten Larsen at ml@dina.kvl.dk or Hanne Østergård at hanne.oestergaard@risoe.dk at the very latest on October 13.

There is still room for more presentations. We invite talks on dispersal models and spatial patterns and their use in agricultural research, both in plant sciences and veterinary sciences. Examples of areas of applications are spread of plant diseases, spread of pollen and spread of animal diseases. Presentations relating to mathematical models, statistical analysis of dispersal experiments and simulation models are all welcome.

This will be an informal workshop and not a conference so work presented need not / should not all be "final" results. Indeed, the format will be that the presenter uses only about half the alloted time to make a presentation of results, ideas, and problems for discussion and the rest of the time is given over to discussion by the workshop participants. Furthermore, there will be plenty of time for informal discussion after the evening session as participants will be housed at Brorfelde.

The workshop is supported by Dina and we will therefore be able to keep the cost of participation to a minimum: at most 500 DKK per person. The exact price will be announced when practical arrangements of catering and transportation have been finalized.

If you are interested in participating in the workshop or in receiving further information when available please drop a line to Morten Larsen at ml@dina.kvl.dk or Hanne Østergård at hanne.oestergaard@risoe.dk.

Please forward this announcement to anyone you know of who could be interested in the workshop!

When the programme is in place it will be posted at http://www.dina.kvl.dk/~ml/itcoord/Workshop2003/. Abstracts will also be posted there when they become available.
